Tamara’s celebration of Life

Donation protected
On the 11th of January 2019 we lost our beautiful sister, partner, aunty, niece and friend Tamara Elizabeth Maas. Tamara was also known as Taz, Tam and aunty mara by all those who love her.
Tamara sadly lost her battle with her mental health on the 6th of January, she then spent 5 days on the critical care unit at Trelisk Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones, until the time came to say goodbye.
Tamara never had a easy life but she was always ready to give you a hug and a smile when you were feeling low your self.  Tamara beauty shown inside and out and that’s how we we always remember her.
Tamara was born in Trelisk hospital on the 19th of August 1995. Tamara and her brother Wes moved to south Africa when they were 2 and 3 years old where they lived with there Nan and Papa who gave them the very best start in life. This is were Tamara fell in love with soaking up the sun and being with nature. Tamara and Wes returned to Cornwall after the sad passing of their papa, this is where the start of her mental health battles begin .
Tamara and Wes entered the foster care system but each to different homes.  Tamara struggled with stability and bounced from unhealthy relationship to unhealthy relationship the healthy relationships she found too hard to cope with.  this continued to reinenforce her issues with the instability.
Tamara found life long friends at Helston school and when she went to Cornwall College. Tamara had a lot of laughs and happy memories during in this time, she passed her driving test and started in the big wide world of working, living her best life doing what regular 18 years olds do. Tamara worked in care for a most of her life, this was a true representation of her and her loving caring nature, always wanted the best for everyone always ready to give to others often at the sacrifice of herself working 90 hours a week at times to support the elderly, disabled both with physically and silent disabilities to give care in the community taking her dog along on occasions to visit them which made their days.
On the 19th of November 2014 Tamara and Wes sadly lost their Nan, who they both loved so much and was the their only stability through their lives. Tamara has never truly understood or grieved for her nan. This is where her story takes a drastic turn when Tamara’s battle with her mental health for her becomes almost to much to bear and begins the spiral that is beyond her control.
Tamara then settled down and for a while meeting a guy, buying a house, but along with this came a lot of responsibility that Tamara was not comfortable with. Tamara then went back to her instability ways of bouncing through relationship, jobs and where she lived.
Family and friends all reached out to help in this time. Appointments and assessments where made at the longreach centre, however Tamara was often waiting days or weeks for support and this is was too long for her to wait. Tamara would go there frequently when she hit crisis point and was often turned away due to the complete lack of funding in Cornwall.
The last year of Tamara’s life was a real turning point for her, she would often talk openly on her Facebook and Instagram in the hope that her story would help others. Tamara was in a lot of contact with many people she had never met to support them with their own battles. Tamara met some real friends, and her partner Dion during this time. Tamara had many highs and lows in this year. In the last few months Tamara was not able to secure employment, faced becoming homeless and at the age of 24, this world came become to much for her.
Tamara’s story paints a sad but true picture of young people in today’s society let down by people who should protect them, the care system, Nhs/government funding of mental health.
There is a the side to Tamara that we as her family and friends know that isn’t pictured here, because to each of us she was unique, she was our shoulder, our crazy, smart, helpful, kind, caring, person.  To share our Tamara with you would be wonderful but everyone one of us holds a different memory.  Tamara is the brightest star in the sky because in life she struggled but was always always the bestest friend and nicest person you could ever meet.

Our Idea’s for Tamara Celebration of life

It was agreed Tamara would not want a traditional funeral, Tamara hated to see people sad especially around her, instead the family are wanting to celebrate her short life. In Tamara’s death we have started to truly understand how many lives she really did touch.
We would like to hold a normal traditional service as this is something that just has to happen.

This will take place at Camborne Crematorium on the 7th of February. Arrival from 230 pm to start at 3 pm.
This will be followed with a celebration at pub with nibbles. Please bring stories, pictures and anything you have to remember of Tamara and as Tamara loved purple we would love for you all wear purple for her.
Tamara will be cremated as was her wishes. Wes, Dion and Sarah would like to return Tamara so she can be at peace with her Nan in South Africa. Any money left over from the funeral donation will go towards a taking Tamara home.

Special thanks to Critical care unit at Trelisk who have gone above and beyond for Tamara and her Family for the passed week.

As a family we would like to Thank every person who has supported us, provided food and a shoulder to lean on at this difficult. Thank you to every person that is supporting us to fulfil Tamara’s last wishes and giving her the best send off we possibly can.
