Tamara Gooch + Family Medical Fund

On February 12th, 2015 Michael Mitchell and two of his step daughters, Bobbie and Tamara Gooch were involved in a horrible car accident. Their Ford Escape was turning left at about 5mph with Michael Driving, Bobbie (15) in the passenger's seat and Tamara (17) in the rear passenger's seat when they hit broadside by a Chevy Silverado travelling an estimated 65mph+. The approaching vehicle was travelling in a 45mph zone, possibly without its headlights on at 8:45pm. No one is the Escape saw an approaching vehicle at all, not even upon impact. Skid marks on the road indicate the driver did not apply their brakes until right before the moment of impact.

As a result of this accident Michael and Bobbie were injured but not severely and will be fine. Tamara, however was injured very badly. Her pelvis was snapped all the way through as well as two other pelvic fractures, a broken rib, 12 pieces of glass were removed from her face, a sprained ankle, damaged knee, bruised sternum as well as many others cuts and bruises all over her body. Fortunately, all of her injuries will ultimately heal but she is confined to a wheelchair for the next several months and it will be a long road to recovery.

While the vehicle insurance will cover a very small amount of the medical bills, they can not begin to cover all of the expenses nor will they cover all of the costs involved with replacing the Escape. Tamara and Bobbie do have medical insurance provided through their father that will also cover some but the remained will be excessive.

This follows on the heels of the girls' mother Kelliann falling and breaking her back and tailbone in several spots on 7/28/13. Medical bills for that have remained very high and have put a serious strain on the family's finances as Kelliann is unable to work to her full potential, further harming the family finances.

This leaves Michael to bear the burden of providing for himself, 2 injured daughters (1 severely) a still recovering wife and two other healthy daughters. It has been a struggle and they have barely kept their heads above water.

On 2/18/15 Michael was diagnosed with two hernias that will require surgery as well as a surgical procedure to deal with his continuing ulcerative colitis. The bills from these will be a tremendous burden to the family. Also, there will be recovery time for Michael as well, further reducing his ability to provide income for the family.

The other family vehicle has been modified to accomodate a ramp to transport Tamara in her wheelchair and several of her friends have volunteered to assist with transport as Michael currently has limited ability to help her into the van and post surgery will have no ability to load and unload her.

Our friends and family have been an incredible help, bending over backwards to assist but the financial burden is overwhelming and the bills are unsustainable, even at this early stage. It is estimated that the amount to cover vehicle replacement (after insurance payout) accident related medical bills over and above what insurance will pay for, Kelliann's outstanding and continuing medical bills and Michael's soon to be medical expenses will meet or exceed $100,000.

Michael and Kelliann have been unable to find affordable health insurance and remain uncovered.
