Students Solve Poverty - Microloans

Donation protected
I am a Pre-AP Spanish teacher at Goochland High School, located in a rural district outside of Richmond, VA.  As part of the Pre-AP course, students learn what life is like for the majority of people in Latin America who live in poverty and ways they can have a positive impact. One innovative way of doing this is providing impoverished people with micro loans. I would like your help in establishing a fund to allow students to make actual micro loans through kiva.org .  (Learn more here .)

As part of a microfinance unit, students will use Kiva.org in order to find a person or group in the developing world who can benefit from a micro loan.  They will then create a presentation in which they convince their peers about the merits of their chosen borrower.  Then, with your financial support, they will make actual loans to the borrowers through kiva.org. This project will allow students to apply what they have learned to solve real-world problems. In addition, I hope the project will inspire many of the students to begin a life long commitment to helping those less fortunate. Finally, an average repayment rate of nearly 99% for kiva loans will help ensure the sustainability of this project for many years (and classes) to come! (Note: Given that these funds will be used as loans, they do not count as tax deductible donations.)
