Take the Rock Veteran Swim Challenge was created in 2013 for veterans as an open-water training program that culminates with a swim from Alcatraz Island to the Aquatic Park in San Francisco, CA in late summer. (Visit www.taketherock.com for details.)
To date we have successfully trained and led more than 300 swimmers from Alcatraz to San Francisco. As we learned in our military service, training makes the difference!
The swim brings together Veterans of all services to help promote the camaraderie, pride and confidence that many of us experienced during our time in the Service. This is called The Warrior Spirit. It's a way for veterans and their families to reconnect with the Warrior Spirit by taking on this challenge and succeeding together. Make no mistake, Take The Rock requires persistence, determination, focus, risk, and sustained physical effort. You will know your life has changed when you step back onto the beach.
The swim is 1.3 miles and is open to all active duty, Veterans, and immediate family members of Veterans. Swimmers train with our coaching staff during the summer months to build the endurance and skills necessary to succeed.
Our Funding Purpose:
Our many selfless volunteers and coaches contribute their personal time and expenses to this effort. Donated funds are used to pay for permits, fees, charter boats, and direct costs incidental to the swim.
Your donation will directly support Veterans and help offer this event at no cost to the participants.
