Tailar's Stroke Fund

Donation protected
Normally, I am not one to ask for help, but I am slowly learning how to. On Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, right around lunch, I suffered from a stroke in the right, front hemisphere of my brain. I was rushed to Lyell McEwan Hospital via ambulance. I was quickly assessed, had a CT scan that confirmed it was indeed a stroke and put on medication to help prevent another stroke from occuring. Because of my young age, the doctors want to be thorough and do ultrasounds on my legs, an electrocardiogram (ECG) and Holter exam, along with a full blood work up. I will need to be monitored frequently, and because I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Australia, I am not able to benefit from Medicare yet. This means all cost are out of pocket. The trip to emergency cost $475, the Holter and ECG are estimated at $600 together, and the blood work is estimated at $150. That is already $1225, plus the ultrasound that they didn't have an estimate for. The doctors told me at my first appointment yesterday that I am progressing well and they expect me to make a full recovery. I have full range of motion back in my left arm, but it is still a bit weak, and fine motor skills are still lacking in my fingers. I am still easily exhausted, and find speech challenging at times. I know I have more appointments to monitor my health and find out the cause of this. It was definitely terrifying, and hard being away from my family back in Canada, but I have an amazing support system here. I hope to be able to manage finding employment soon, but recovery is the first thing on my list of things to accomplish right now.
