Baby Claire

This is baby Claire. She entered the world prematurely on September 27th (at only 32 weeks) and weighed 1.4 kgs / 3 lbs. Her twin sibling was stillborn.

Her mother, Celine, went into labour too early, and the hospital they were using for her prenatal care was not equipped for a premature baby. After some quick deliberation, they decided to go to the only hospital with a neonatal ICU.

This was a life-saving decision.

The hospital admitted Celine immediately, and after doing their best to keep the baby inside the womb for as long as possible, little Claire was born a day later.
 For the first weeks of her life, Claire lived in the neonatal ICU attached to a ventilator and feeding tube. At 34 weeks old, Claire could finally breath on her own and was moved to the regular newborn ward. She’ll need to remain on a feeding tube, however, for several more weeks.

Now that the emergency has passed, the hospital requires payment. Claire's parents, who earn an average of $150 USD a month, have no health insurance.
 The hospital bill currently sits at $18,700 USD and will increase as Claire’s stay lengthens. (The estimated total of $30,000 CDN / 25,000 USD is what you see for our fundraiser). Her remaining length of time in the hospital is unclear, but we are positive she is getting the very best care in Kenya.

At 3 weeks old, she is gaining weight and recognises her mom and dad. She wiggles and responds just like a baby should.

Before baby Claire can go home, the bill needs to be paid in full, which is why we need the funds by October 30, 2017.

Claire's parents, Wycliffe and Celine, are widely known and loved among the AIM and SIM communities. Wycliffe gardens, drives a motorcycle taxi, and works other odd jobs for many missionaries, and Celine recently finished cooking school.
 This is a beautiful family and a beautiful baby, and we truly believe God saved baby Claire for a special reason.
