Ahh, the typical adult daily life. An eight-hour long dragging shift to come home, kick back relax, and catch some zzz's. Sure we all have our own worries and stress, and everything else that comes along but, I believe that the worry of not knowing where you’ll sleep at night should never be a worry for anyone. Nevertheless, an individual not only looking to grow and build but also willing to accept the help and do the necessary steps to achieve that.

In most cases, the form of homelessness we're used to seeing is people with signs asking for spare change, and while acknowledging them, there is also another community of homelessness. A community that is OUR future, a community we often don't recognize. That community is our youth, young men, and women between the ages of fifteen through the mid and late twenties. A community affected by the cards they were dealt with in life, and not necessarily bad choices. Young men and women who want better, and can do better, but just need a little jump start to get the engine started and driving down the road.

Unfortunately, at this time in my life, things aren't so great. My name is Ta'Hari Jackson , a former and now emancipated foster youth. Embarking on twenty-three, I have experienced certain things I wish no one would have to endure. Although these experiences are definitely traumatizing and hurtful, they also act as learning experiences. Through patience, faith in myself and in Jesus Christ, I'm a firm believer in that this too shall pass.

I have been in and out of homes, and any home you can imagine. From foster homes, group homes, ‘Tent’ homes, the ‘Bench by the Park’ home. Since the summer of 2015, I have been couch surfing and going from job to job as a result of nights where I don't necessarily get to sleep on someone's couch. I would go days and sometimes even weeks sleeping outdoors. Lack of sleep, the inability to maintain hygiene, loss of hope in myself and in others were all circumstances and thoughts I was encountering. Peaks and valleys I always say, and despite these challenges and experiences, I am currently a college student with a strong desire to help others. Currently working on my Degree in Communications with a focus in Public Relations. I am proud of my struggles and where I come from. I'm proud of who I am and what my character values. I look back and see all the different ways that I can use my struggles and experiences into being lending hand to others for the rest of my life.

I have the opportunity to get into low-income housing. I have a new job that I'm starting soon which will allow me to cover rent and basic needs in the near future. At this time, I'm still in my valley and the only thing standing in between me and my peak is the ability to provide a security deposit to gain stable housing. I'm asking for your help with raising these funds. Any donation or gift will be graciously appreciated.

“So don't be misled, my dear brothers and sisters, whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all his creation, became his prized possession.”
James 1:16 NLT
