Tad's knee surgery Expenses

Donation protected
Had the surgery this week. Had no idea how painful and challenging this would be. I need help. I need a hand up, not a hand out.

I will repay everyone at some point, once I return to work and can do so. Even if you donate anonymously, send me a private message and ask me to repay you. Promise. My word is good as I strive to live a life of rigorous honesty.

Despite making many calls and trying for hours to get the correct info, my insurance plan is NOT at all what I had hoped for. A dear friend is helping me cover the large deductible (which I was told I would NOT have on this policy), but just yesterday I received another bill for $563 that is NOT covered as it is out of network.

For those who don't know, I was injured in a serious car wreck in 2008. I was a passenger in a car that was rear ended by a reckless teen driving 100 mph in a BMW. My friend's SUV started to roll after that impact, but we hit a "Jersey" wall which may have saved our lives. After the front impact, we did not roll or flip off the Sawmill Parkway and lived to tell the tale.

I had surgery on both knees due to the damage that came from hitting the dash at high impact. One knee was helped, the other not. I also had a torn lumbar disk and several herniated disks to deal with. I am grateful those have improved but the "bad" knee has gotten worse with time. And the pain and damage exacerbated by additional bad falls like one that broke my wrist in January as depicted in the photo above.  You would not want to see my knee!

After six years on Disability, I chose to go back to work in Washington. Despite the pain. Over time, I knew I needed a knee replacement. I moved back to Indiana this spring with the full belief I had the funds to go ahead with the surgery and that my insurance coverage was as presented by the salesman. I did all the pre-surgery work and was booked for surgery in mid-May. However, as I learned the insurance was not as I had understood, had a difficult time setting up pain management to cover the event, and got a chest cold which is against protocol within days of surgery, I cancelled the May surgery date.

After another bad fall in June, I just cannot put it off any longer. Were it not for the pain that wakes me up in the middle of the night, and then wakes me in the morning to begin my day, I would tough it out, go back to work and make the money needed to make this happen. I've been in pain every day since the wreck in 2008.

I still have enough to cover my rent but the extra two months of other expenses on top of the medical costs I was misinformed about have led to a very tough place. I humbly ask for any help that you may provide at this time of need.  This is humbling, but not humiliating as I have been glad to support such GoFund me accounts for others who felt they had no other option. We all have our limits.

Some may judge me for making the choices and decisions that brought me to this point.  I am powerless over other people. Trust me I wouldn't have gone through the hard work of moving this spring had I not believed this surgery was taking place.  I made the best decision I could based on the information I was given. But I now ask for your help and give my word any donations will be repaid.

ANY amount would be appreciated. Aloha.
