Taco Mama Cuca is what we are today thanks to all of you! And that’s why my husband Juan Carlos and I, Maria Marquez, owners of Tacos Mamá Cuca, are raising money from our community to buy and operate our own food truck. And we want to do it right. With your help we will have the funds to operate our own food truck with all the required documents and permits to bring our dream of serving you the magic of Sonoran style tacos. When we started Taco Mama Cuca in February 2022, we were very excited to bring our culinary traditions from our hometown SONORA MEXICO. The name Taco Mama Cuca celebrates my mother, Mama Cuca, who taught me to make the flour tortillas that we have become famous for amongst our customers. We make each tortilla by hand. My husband Carlos, who is always behind the grills, works hard to bring you the most perfectly smoked meat that Sonoran tacos are famous for. We preserved nights and days to get to where we are right now. And it hasn't been easy. We started with very few customers, but we slowly grew our base. We cannot complain, because thanks to the Instagram posts we have reached all of you, our clients and followers. But attention is a double-edged sword. The attention on social media also generated d a lot of hate and racism towards us. People started to organize in the comments to get the city of Oakland to shut us down. And that’s why on Monday, June 11th, an inspector from the city of Oakland arrived at our home where everyone knows we worked and sold our Tacos and, as expected, our job was closed. We cannot continue selling more in our home since it is a house and in a residential area, you cannot legally sell any type of food… at least no more than 60 dishes a week. Our closing was covered by SF Gate in the article title, “One of the Bay Area’s best taco spots shuts down,” by Nico Madrigal-Yankowski.   	•	 But we don’t want to let hate or racism win. With God's blessing and yours, we want to continue pushing this dream of having a stable place for you. That’s why we’re so grateful that we have secured a food truck to purchase with the help of the owners of Mi Reynita, pioneers in Tijuana style Tacos who have successfully opertated their food truck. They have kindly offered to help and guide us and we thank God and them for all the support they have given us at this time that we need the most. But, as you well know, all this is quite expensive and we do not have the resources to be able to acquire it at the moment. Many of you prompted us to create a GoFoundMe page…And we have listened to you. So here we are, asking for your support in the most cordial and attentive way to continue serving you and improve in matters required by law.
