Tacoma Aikikai Dojo Support Fund

Dreams do come true! In March 2019 Tacoma Aikikai  realized it’s dream of opening a dedicated dojo in Central Tacoma. With the hard work of our members and generous support of our community , we raised the funds to build a permanent home and embark on our mission of sharing aikido to empower youth and adults in the South Puget Sound.

Since the Grand Opening, our dojo community grew to more than 70 members and 50 families. We introduced aikido to the community through an Open House , Beginners Series  and cultivated Empowered Self-Defense Workshops .  We hosted practitioners from across the Northwest at seminars and events.

A year later, in March 2020, we temporarily closed our doors due to Covid-19. Since then, we have been awed by the resilience and dedication of our members, through online lessons, outdoor classes, family training, and creative practice.

We continue our commitment and dedication to keeping the art of aikido alive and sharing its empowering potential for all, inclusive of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, faith, age, economic status, and ability.

Today, we are keeping our support fundraiser alive to fund Tacoma Aikikai’s continued growth and longevity, while moving us towards a sustainable business model supporting professional aikido instructors and aspiring apprentices. Your donations help us pay the bills during the pandemic, expand our mat to host even more students, and continue our sliding scale membership fees to support those in financial need:

Your donations will fund:

-          Covid-19 cash flow uncertainties to pay basic mortgage, utilities, and maintenance from January-June 2021 (estimated need $2000-6000)
-          Helping us remodel our back warehouse for dressing rooms and apprentice quarters
-          Expanding our mat with an additional 16 tatami (estimate need $2000)
-          Subsidizing students in financial need with sliding scale membership fees

*Tacoma Aikikai is a for-profit business, and your generous donations towards supporting the dojo are not tax deductible.

This year has been a wild ride, and we have loved sharing it with you. Thank you for all your support for growing a new dojo here in Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest.

Gassho,

Ea, Eric, and Tacoma Aikikai
