Sweet Tabitha the Westie

Donation protected
Meet Tabitha, quite possible the sweetest little girl ever and completely unphased by the awful situation she's been dealt the past few months.  After being "injured" in her home, her owners were unable to provide vet care for her. After 2 months they determined that she would not get better and made arrangements to take her to the local shelter. Lucky for Tabitha, the dog warden gave them the phone number for GLWR otherwise she would have been euthanized. We made the emergency drive to pick her up Monday Night 2/9.  She cannot walk, but drags her legs behind her. She is very thin and has worn sores on her legs from dragging.

First Vet Appointment 2/10: She spent the summer and fall living outside so she is having a blood panel done and a heart worm check. She will also have her shots updated if the vet determines she is in good enough condition. Our vet is also doing x-rays to give us a start on assessing the extent of her injuries. Upon initial examination her hind legs are limp, as is the tail, no attempt to step or correct leg position. However, there was what my vet called a deep pain response. When her toes are pinched she flinches away from that and actually could do a very tiny pull away from the pinch. A lot of damage done, the question is how much can we get back? She will come home this afternoon on some steroids. The quest is on for her cart aka westie wheelchair.

Later that evening 2/10: Tabitha has had a big day. Our vet found her to be heart worm free and blood work looked pretty good. X-rays did not show any fractures, so we will need to look further to find what damage there is to the spine. Additional testing will be coming up. Knowing there are no fractures we began manipulating and moving her legs and feet and tail. She loved the attention and responded with twitches. We are hopeful! Tabitha finished up the evening with the BIG bath to rid her of fleas, and then a shave to help with managing diapers and jammies for the short term.

Tabitha will be seeing the the orthopedic surgeon at N.I.V.E.S. next Tuesday morning. They said that if there is still deep pain sensation that means they still have live nerves and surgical intervention is a possibility. We are looking at $150.00 for first visit eval. If determined there is hope we move to a ct scan for about $1200.00. if that reveals there is help then we are on to surgery for a tab total of around $4k to help her.

This is where we need your help. Could you find it in your heart to help this sweet little girl. Anything helps. Thank you for your kindness and support!
