On June 24, 2017 we were celebrating dad's 50th birthday when he was involved in a motorcycle accident and was life-flighted to UPMC Presbyterian. Upon arriving at the hospital, he was quickly taken to surgery to see if there were any internal bleeding/injuries that needed to be taken care of immediately. He also lost a lot of blood after splitting his head opened. While in surgery, they found a liver laceration. It was quickly cauterized to stop the bleeding. His injuries include: temporal bone fracture, multiple facial fractures, C3 Spine fracture, two broken ribs, fractured ulna, fractured femur, and shattered patella. He has had to undergo three surgeries. When he was extubated and the sedation medicine wore off, he was able to tell us that his left arm did not feel right and could not move it. Doctors did an X-ray and it showed no fractures. Now Nero Surgery is consulted to figure out what is going on with his arm. He is working with physical therapy and is in a splint on his right arm and leg. Still in a neck brace for up to six weeks to help heal his spinal fracture.

After he was extubated and the sedation medicine wore off, dad was able to explain to us what happened on that day. He doesn't remember much, but this is what he told us. While on his way to get his car and put his bike away, dad was faced with a decision to not get hit by a car that swerved into his lane and was coming at him head on. His option was to either hit the car or try to get far enough off the road as possible to not hit the car. When he decided to try and get off the road, he went off too far and lost control of his bike. That is when he told us, "I lost everything".

While he is in much better spirits than that day, he is still recovering. It will be a long road to recovery, but we will help him get there. Recently, dad accepted a position doing a job he absolutely loves! With that being said, this new job is so recent that he currently does not have health insurance. The health insurance he was expected to receive was to begin on July 1st, and that will not happen. He is also without any paid time off or vacation hours to be used to help supplement some pay to provide for he and my mom to pay their bills. We created this account to help ease the burden of our parents and to help keep the spirits positive for our dad in order to keep the recovery process going as well as it has been. Any amount will help, and we will be forever grateful and thankful for your contribution.

We will also be holding a benefit dinner. More information of the benefit dinner will follow as we are trying to get everything straightened out.
