Prayers for Garrett

Donation protected
On April 16th Garrett my son was taken to his pediatrician for a runny nose and fever. He was diagnosed with a sinus infection and given 2 injections of steroids and antibiotics and sent home on oral antibiotics. That evening his eye lid started swelling. He was taken to urgent care on April 18th who gave him eye drops and another injection of antibiotics. I got him back from his dad Monday evening and was observing his eye for any changes. It wasn't getting any worse but I wanted it checked and he was seen by FentonKallner Optometrists in Portsmouth, Ohio on April 24th. Dr. Kallner wasn't comfortable with the test results and called Dr. Evans the Opthomologist who then sent us to SOMC for a stat cat scan. He called me at the hospital and said it was a tumor and not to fool around with our Dr's and Nationwide Children's in Columbus, Ohio was waiting for us to arrive.
Garrett has been diagnosed  with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on  04/28/2015.  This is a rare form of leukemia that only 500 kids a year are diagnosed with across the USA.  Dr's say he's had the disease weeks and not months because he hasn't had some of the normal symptoms i.e. pain of his bones and lethargy that are seen with AML.   The mass behind his right eye is called a chloromoa which is an accumulation of the leukemia cells.  After a repeat mri on 05/04/2015 to see if his tumor had decreased in size after a few days of chemo it was decided to do 12 treatments of radiation and  on 05/13/15 Garrett received his 1st radiation treatment at the James Cancer Center.  He will finish up his radiation on June 1st.  Garrett had a bone marrow aspirate performed on 04/28/2015.  A spinal tap and central line placement (Broviac) was performed on 04/29/2015 along with his 1st chemo treatment.   He finished his 1st round of chemotherapy on May 8th. Garrett was dismissed from the hospital on May 22nd and will be re-admitted on June 2nd to start round 2 of chemotherapy. Garrett has a long road to remission and will mainly receive his chemotherapy treatments inpatient over the next 6 months to a year.
His mom (Shawna Helene Ruth) has been allowed to take time off from work but it is unpaid and with driving back and forth to be with Garrett and his brothers, bills, food and other unexpected expenses the next 6-12 months will be an expensive  venture.  Garrett and his family  don't need a lot so any donations are much appreciated!
Garrett is in the 8th grade at South Webster jr high.
This is the 2nd GoFundMe account for Garrett and it's because a lot of my family and friends wanted me to have access to money now since I'm on an unpaid leave of absence from my job and so I could stay with Garrett all the time and have the funds to travel to get his brothers every other week, food and anything Garrett requires for his care.
Garrett is the son of Shawna Houston-Ruth and Leslie Houston.  Grandson of Craig and Donna Ruth and Carol Ruth and Les and Sandy Houston.
Any and all donations are much appreciated and Garretts story can be followed on Facebook under a group called Prayers for Garrett.  I update this group daily.
