HELP ALISON GET A NEW CAR

Alison is a single mother who escaped a difficult relationship from an alcoholic husband a few years back. She is a great mother to her son, Nicholas, who has Fragile X Syndrome and sometimes has seizures. Fragile X is the leading genetic cause of developmental delay and intellectual disability.

Alison is a fierce advocate for her son and is keen for him to gain as many independent living skills as possible. Nicholas is now 13 years old, attends a Special Developmental School and is an absolute credit to his adoring mother. He is a very popular member of his school’s community.

But Alison doesn’t just look out for Nicholas. Alison regularly takes an elderly neighbour to the shops or out for coffee. She is one of the emergency contacts for another elderly neighbour. As well, Alison picks up some other carers and takes them to the gym they all attend on a weekly basis.

The main reason, though, that Alison needs a reliable car is that she needs to be able to get to Nicholas’s school at a moment’s notice if he has a seizure. She has been saving for a car but it’s not easy to save on a carer’s pension and it’s slow going.

Twenty people nominated Alison for a car in the recent Channel 9 Skoda competition so that she could replace her 18 year old and increasingly unreliable vehicle. However, she missed out. We know that seven very deserving people did get a car and we would love to be able to help Alison get one too.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading Alison’s story, xoxo
