Hi everyone, I am one of the room parents in Jacobs class and with the permission of his mother I am creating this account on her behalf.  Jacob is a 6 year old boy and kindergarten student at St. Maria Goretti School in Schiller Park, Illinois. Just days before his birthday on January 18, 2018 he became gravely ill and was absent from school. Shortly after his birthday, his physician sent Jacob to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago for further testing and it was discovered that he had cancer in his blood. The diagnosis was Childhood Leukemia. This was devastating to hear for Ms. Corona, Jacob's mom, as she is a single parent. Originally from Mexico, Ms. Corona came to this country to seek a better life. She has a wonderful son who she considers a blessing. She is naturally distraught at the prospect of having to take a leave of absence from work to provide round the clock care for Jacob. Her employer issued insurance will run out when the sick leave ends as the treatment for Jacob will take three (3) years. Ms. Corona is fearful that not having any income at the moment she will not be able to pay her rent and bills. Any donations you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated. These donations will help her manage the expense of driving into downtown Chicago for his weekly treatments, purchase the medical supplies and prescription medicines that he needs, and make it possible for Ms. Corona to purchase groceries to keep up with the dietary needs of her son. Thank you for your prayers and donations. The road to recovery is long and the aggressive chemotherapy and blood transfusions are going to take their toll on little Jacob. But with your prayers and support, we hope to make it a little easier for the Corona Family to deal with the financial hardship they are beginning to endure. ******************* JULY 16 2019 JACOB HAS RELAPSED AND WE ARE STARTING HIS FUNDRAISING EFFORTS ALL OVER. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NO WAY TO RESET THE AMOUNT TO ZERO SO IT IS STILL SHOWING THE $5,400 WE THANKFULLY RAISED FOR THE FAMILY WITH HIS FIRST BATTLE BUT AS WE KNOW THE LIVING EXPENSES, PARKING EXPENSES, ETC. ENDURED THE 1ST TIME AROUND USED UP THE ENTIRE AMOUNT RAISED. WE DO APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL DONATIONS WE CAN RAISE FOR THIS SECOND BATTLE THE CORONA FAMILY IS ABOUT TO ENDURE. JACOB'S mom had to once again quit her Job after just returning a few months ago when he went into remission, however a few months back when Mrs.Corona was told he was in remission and his treatments would be less frequent and she got the OK to put him in Daycare she did and quickly returned to work! She is a very hardworking mom but unfortunately now that he has relapsed and is having weekly chemotherapy and weekly bloodwork and this is just the beginning of another much more aggressive treatment her priority is being at Jacob's side, so she had to resign from her job. The Unity In Community is supporting a fundraiser hosted by The American Legion for Jacob on 8/30/2019, you can find more information on his FB page and you can check for future event or other future fundraisers, it's Jacob Strong - Jacob Corona. We are extremely grateful to everyone for past and future donations! He is scheduled for his 3rd Chemotherapy treatment for the relapse on 8/19/2019.
