Help Me Save My Home!

Recently, due to financial circumstances beyond my control I am in a situation where I may lose my home due to debt. Last year I found myself in a situation where, beyond my anticipation, all of my expenses increased but my income did not. As a senior my expenses became too much – medical expenses, prescription costs, glasses, dental, insurance increases, lease payment increases, utility expenses, etc. I was proactive and so I rented out a room in my home. In doing so I was taken advantage of and had approximately $10,000 taken from me and feared for my safety. I pursued every avenue to recover the money (e.g. Calgary Police Services, legal help) but to no avail. I also had my computer hacked adding to my financial burden. Thus I ended up relying on credit to pay my bills.

To anyone who knows me, you know that all of the medical issues that I have are life threatening and you know that my home is my safe haven. In December 2013 I began to have heart issues. Then in January 2014 after open heart surgery I was at an ejection fraction of 20. I had clots in my main stem and circumflex. My liver, kidneys and pancreas all had embolus. My lungs were full of lymphadenopathy. There are three tumors are still in my lungs that will not be removed due to the invasiveness of the procedure – at this point the risk of investigation is too high. I have also been notified that due to the surgery I may have mycobacterium chimaera but the procedure to find out is invasive which I cannot endure. I also have osteoarthritis, masses in the soft tissue of my throat (thyroid, parathyroid and voice box) which continues to be monitored, Cushing’s disease, calcium deposits were also discovered in my back, arm and across my legs in my musculature. I had ovarian and uterine cancer.

I have had more health issues and complications than any one person should ever endure beginning when I was a child with spinal meningitis, which left me with autoimmune deficiencies for the rest of my life, all of this is due to no fault of my own.

This is why it is imperative that I keep my home as it reduces my risk of being exposed to contaminants that I would be exposed to if I lived elsewhere (e.g. a rental apartment). I have tried every other possible route to work with my bank, re-mortgage my home, repay my debts, EVERYTHING! Yet I have no solutions other than to ask for assistance which is the last thing that I ever wanted to do.

At 72 years old I am now in a position of dire straits. If I do not pay back my creditors they will force me into bankruptcy and I WILL LOSE MY HOME… Please help in any way that you can. All money that I receive will go to paying off my debts which are currently at $73,000. My situation is URGENT and I have no other options other than to ask for your assistance so that I can stop my debt from going to collections and a forced bankruptcy. If this happens they will take my home and I will have nowhere to go.

I try and give back to my community in any way that I can. I am a Writer, a Spoken Word Entertainer, Retired Health Care Worker, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and a Support Person for our youth.
