Let's help Chris

Christopher is 3 years old - An only child who loves nothing more than to ride his bike and spend time learning how to go faster than his dad on that same bike. He loves to make new friends and is the light of the playground when he arrives - he's funny, kind, and adventurous with a huge heart.

On Tuesday the 8th of August Christopher was admitted to Policlinica Metropolitana. A hospital in Venezuela, a third world Country currently under political, and social turmoil, where medications are hard to come by, and children often die due to lack of treatment and less than optimal medical conditions. Christopher arrived with a smile on his face but not feeling like himself, pale in color, and a little scare... Blood tests followed, then blood transfusion, then multiple lumbar punctures to confirm every parent’s nightmare.

Christopher has AML (Acute myeloid leukemia).
Chemotherapy is the recommended treatment and will be given for 2 & 1/2 years. There will be a very intense first 6 months - then monthly lumbar puncture, numerous blood tests and scans to follow.

We need to raise funds for Christopher ASAP - as you can imagine, under the current circumstances in which Hospitals must function in Venezuela, his parents are forced to import all medications necessary for Christopher’s treatment. The financial strain this puts on a family is beyond imaginable, especially when they need to focus on Christopher, his day to day treatment, and road to recovery.

Its an extremely stressful time and the circumstances beyond their control are less than ideal - any donations will help towards the travel expenses needed to import all medications, living expenses while Marielys (Christopher’s mom) is unable to work, and Alexander (Christopher’s dad) is in charge on locating, importing, or transporting all medications needed. We are asking for help not for the parents but Christopher and his ability to obtain the basic medications that will increase his chances of survival.

Christopher is not blame for the cards he has been dealt, nor the current situation the Country that he happens to be born in is under, it is unfortunate that he has to fight not only against his diagnosis but also against the medical system that is supposed to care for him.

My name is Julio Salazar, I am a US citizen and Army Veteran who was born in Venezuela. Currently I have family in the midst of a political and social crisis in the country in which I was born. On top of it all, my 3-year-old nephew Christopher and his parents just received the most devastating news.

The funds obtained are not for a group or organization in Venezuela, but for a specific individual. Christopher is my nephew and the funds collected will go directly to his care. I am currently the person responsible for finding the medication he needs, and getting it to him in Venezuela for his treatment. The situation we are facing is devastating, and Venezuela as a whole is currently facing a significant crisis beyond medication, but for my nephew there is nothing more important than the start of his treatment as soon as possible. The account provided is my own personal account and the only one we have available at the moment, I will be personally responsible for ensuring that every dollar donated to Christopher reaches is family and it is used for his care.

If we all help a little it will go a VERY long way!
