Francisco “Frank” Bonner is a lacrosse enthusiast known to many of us in the community. Born on September 29, 1975 to Maria Cruz; Frank like many in South Jersey at the time knew nothing about lacrosse until one fateful day in gym class at Cherry Hill West High where a couple of friends introduced the game to him. From that point on Frank was hooked. He joined the club team at school and rose to captain in 1992. After graduating Frank went on to Widener University where he not only used the discipline he learned from the sport to become a Law Enforcement Officer but to continue to play at every chance he got. He also became an assistant coach for Cherry Hill West High School and played attack for Widener University Lacrosse program. In 1994 he went on to join the Philadelphia Medical Lacrosse Club and played attack until 1996. In 2000 he joined Behind the Back Lacrosse Club where he played attack. From 2001 to 2003 Frank played forward for Philadelphia Box Lacrosse All-Stars for the US in Prague. In 2005 to present Frank played forward for the Philadelphia Wingnuts Lacrosse Club which is a charity team. He went on to join the join the Masters Lacrosse Club in 2008 as attack. From 2008 to 2011 Frank played attack for the Beavers Club. He currently is coach and instructor for the South Jersey Boys Box Lacrosse league, also a player in the Northman Master Lacrosse team and recently played for Puerto Rico Lacrosse in an event in the spring 2017 .
Somewhere between work and lacrosse Bonner found the time to get married and have a family. He has 2 wonderful children who also play the game .
We could spend all day talking about his lacrosse achievements and the teams he has played for and coached but that’s not why we are here. Our friend, teammate, official, or coach has been diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis which is a form of Nephrotic Syndrome that has progressed into End Stage Renal Failure. For those of us without a medical degree Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a disease that prevents the kidneys from cleaning the blood because of scarring in the kidneys and it is not caused by one single disease but many. This has put our brother and his family in financial hardship since he was the main source of income and has lost his job due to his illness. He is struggling to pay his rent put food on the table and keep ahead of his bills .
It is time for the Lacrosse community to come to together and help one of our own .
