Hi, my name is L’Arianne Harris and I am an independent artist. I have built my business alone from my making my dolls by hand, to my website and social media. I haven’t received any loans and I am a self taught artist. I haven’t obtained any degrees or financial assistance in building my foundation. Doll making runs in my family as we inherit dolls; they are special to me and I really take my time creating dolls that are unique. I’m currently supplying 6 of my dolls for a horror film which is such an achievement for me. I don’t have any fancy degrees so I didn’t think much was possible for me as far as a career goes; and for a long time I wondered “what if something happens to me?” “What example can I show my daughter of success because I didn’t graduate high school.” But I used my talents and skills my grandmother taught me, my mother showed me and the skills I learned by research, investing my tax refunds, practicing and dedicating myself until I reach this point. I’m not the type of person that likes to ask for much because I’m a little stubborn ; like a 2 year old toddler that wants to do everything themselves. But I’ve proven myself dedicated to this specific craft and now with a film in the making I’ve been inspired to go further. My daughter has been inspired to the point of wanting to make dolls also (which I’m proud to make a positive impression on her) and I’m thankful that I have something to show her or leave her behind when I’m no longer around to teach her or provide for her. I work hard and I’ve built everything alone but not because I wanted to.. because I wanted to show myself I can do it no matter what everybody said about me. Im very happy with how far I’ve come.
