Camp Jumbunna SA are a not-for-profit organisation that runs a yearly retreat for female carers of a family member with a disability. We have been operating for 25 years providing an opportunity for our ladies to enjoy a break from their caring role.
In SA there are approximately 185,000 carers, with the majority being female. Nearly half of these carers are aged 35-64 years of age and over 30% provide more than 40 hours care a week with little to no support with their caring role.
This is turn leads to a breakdown in the carers health both physically and mentally. Over 70% of carers have less than 5 hours of 'me' time a week and approximately 60% can never or rarely afford a night away from their caring roles. What we do
At our annual retreat we provide female carers the opportunity to take a break to relax, recharge and take some time for themselves. We also provide the extremely important option of being able to talk with others in a similar position to avoid isolation and the feeling of loneliness, learn from workshops and guest speakers about options that are available to them in the community or to look after themselves better, form lasting friendships, and to enjoy some valuable 'me' time. How can you help
While our ladies are taking time out, we love nothing more than being able to provide some pampering opportunities for them. Just simple things like massages, manicures, a new hairstyle can make the world of difference. Providing opportunities for them to explore the local area that our retreat is being held in is also beneficial. We also like to provide the ladies with information from guest speakers and organisations about options that are available to them and the person they care for in their community. These things unfortunately cannot always be donated and funds are therefore needed. This is where you can help our ladies. By donating today, you will be helping our ladies to have the 'me' time they deserve.
Our retreats are held at the end of October each year, in various locations within a 2 hour drive of Adelaide. The funds raised will go towards this year's retreat, which is being held at the beautiful coastal town of Victor Harbour. We thank you
The committee work hard during the year to plan the most relaxing and informative retreat possible for the ladies. As full time carers themselves, they want to make sure that the ladies have a great time as they can identify with their needs. Seeing the ladies smiling, relaxing, enjoying themselves, and knowing that we have had a part in them regaining the strength to continue with their important caring role is extremely rewarding.
We would love to take the time to thank you for considering donating funds towards these wonderful ladies having the break they deserve, and helping us provide this much needed opportunity.
