Elizabeth (Betty) has been a devoted mom, sister, grandma, granddaughter, friend, and more. All that know her would agree she is the one person you could call, and she would always listen to both the good and bad aspects of life.
I think the above characteristics were revealed most during her years at Ramapo Community Nursery School. From her oldest daughter of 47, her middle son of 46, to her youngest son of 36, all attended the nursery school. My mom started as a musical director at the school, directed annual plays, and evolved into a full blown teacher/director for decades. I wish I could list everything she did for the non-profit organization. This organization has already, as expected from their generous past, has supported in a countless number of ways.
Unfortunately, my mom has had to battle cancer 3 times now. First she beat breast cancer, then had to fight the hardest battle she had ever faced, pancreatic cancer. Betty’s tough, never give up attitude allowed her to have a successful surgery called a whipple procedure. If you ask any doctor or anyone who has been through it, it is a VERY invasive surgery.
The Whipple procedure involves removal of the "head" of the pancreas next to the first part of the small intestine. It also involves removal of the duodenum, a portion of the common bile duct, gallbladder, and sometimes part of the stomach
Among common cancers, pancreatic cancer has one of the poorest prognoses. Because pancreatic cancer often grows and spreads long before it causes any symptoms, only about 6% of patients are still alive five years after diagnosis. Betty KICKED ITS BUTT.
Did I mention that pancreatic cancer is the second most painful cancer, right behind bone cancer?
Approximately one year later, after she was told the surgery was a full success, a spot was discovered on her pancreas and she would have to go through radiation and chemotherapy a third time.
Currently, she is battling this horrible cancer and the drugs, home care, doctors’ appointments, surgeries, and her inability to work her normal job have GREATLY interfered with her income.
That’s why we are reaching out to those who are willing to financially help Betty get through this battle. It’s hard enough to find the courage to fight this awful disease without the worry of money. We are hoping to clear the financial worry about this horrible cancer as much as humanly possible.

My sister, Betty Bloch, needs help. She has battled with cancer over the past 6 years, winning the battle with breast cancer, but now dealing with pancreatic cancer. Betty had surgery for the pancreatic cancer in 2015 (the “Whipple” procedure which involves removing the tumor and literally moving the surrounding organs, and slicing and dicing said organs). There was a lengthy, painful recovery period, and she was advised by her doctor at Memorial Sloan Kettering that her particular type of cancer is likely to recur. Unfortunately, it has come back. Further surgery is not an option. Betty has had a difficult time physically – she has lost nearly 90 pounds, needs enzyme medication in order to be able to absorb any nutrients, and is weak much of the time. There is no further treatment for the cancer, however she can get palliative care to lessen e effects of the cancer and enable her to live more comfortably. That care involves 25 chemo and radiation treatments. She completed her 17th treatment today. Up until she started the recent treatments, she worked for Westchester County Mental Health as the family support specialist. She will return to her job shortly after her treatments are complete if she is able to. In the meantime, she is struggling financially. Betty is dependent on her job to cover her rent and day-to-day expenses, and having to lose any income has put a great burden on her. The last thing she needs right now is to worry about money.
