My Mom

Donation protected
This past Sunday November 19, my mother lost everything in a horrible fire in Bensenville. My kids spent the night by Grandma's the night before. They were woken up at 6 am by someone banging on the door screaming "Fire! Get out!" My mother got my kids and her own mother out safely. My daughter put on her little brother's shorts and my moms's shoes and she grabbed their stuffed animals and nothing else. My mom ran back in for her purse and her glasses. The smoke was everywhere in the building and in her apartment. They were all terrified.  My husband and I got there in 45 minutes from Huntley! There were 28 different fire departments there to help put the fire out. Over a million gallons of water was used. We stood there for hours watching the building burn and there was nothing to say and nothing we could do. My mom' s whole life was in that apartment. That was her home and it's all gone. They won't let us in the building until next week too see what's salvageable, if anything at all. All we can do is hope. She cares mostly about her pictures of her grandkids and her son's college diploma. I'm thankful that all she cared about that horrible morning was getting my kids out. As these past two days have gone by we're trying to get her life in order but it's really tough when you're starting with nothing. People have been so generous already and we are all very grateful. My mom and my grandmother are staying with us for as long as they need to so they can get their minds straight and try to get their life restarted. We're all grateful that they made it out alive and I will always be most grateful that she saved my kids. As helpful helpful as people have already been, starting your life completely over is a struggle. Right now we're working on getting her clothes for work and shoes. All she ran out with was her nightgown. We are not looking for help with her life, but I am reaching out for a little help to get started with all the things you don't realize you need until you don't have it anymore. Any help at all would forever be appreciated. Between my mom and my grandmother, I am guesstimating $2000 as a start. Of course anything at all is appreciated. My husband and I are doing what we can but we're only able to do so much. I thank you for your time to read this. If you are not able to help, I understand. All I want is for you to be thankful for what you have. It can all be gone in the blink of an eye. Be blessed and and be thankful.
