New York Scheming

This GoFundMe is for me. I am an 18-year-old journalist that has come a long way from where I began, I grew up in a single-parent household and always knew the value of working and getting money to help my mom not take on the burden alone. I have moved out of my hometown of Seattle and made my life significantly harder by doing so. But not for nothing. Even during this pandemic I know that my opportunities that I'm looking for are right here. I have worked with KUOW and thanks to the wonderful people there I am able to keep myself above water in this sea of uncertainty. I'm here for a reason and I am working don't get me wrong but I want you to know that it's just me and my mom tackling the world and even though I say that I hate asking my mom for support when I know what we've both had to go through to survive.

This GoFundMe is helping me pay for my college, My rent, and food expenses. I have applied for government assistance but I really need all the help I can get. I am here to persue a dream away from my old life to make myself the best person I could possibly be. If you don't want to donate I understand but I at least hope that you can come out of this knowing that whatever you want to do, It is possible. I came from selling drugs to have money so I didn't add to my mom crying over the bills at the beginning of months to coming to a completely new city; with nothing but the stories of my youth and people who I've met believing in me from me just talking to them. I want you to know that if I am here and putting in this kind of work I know that you can too because I am nothing special. I'm just honoring my deceased father in coming to where my opportunities can reach the sky and my mother for her sacrifices for the pain she's had to go through just to make sure I had a roof over my head.

I'm done with just scraping by and I want to be more. I have my goals for the future because I'll be damned if I end up back to Washington to do the same thing over and over again. I didn't make a difference in people's lives to just go back to a mediocre existence. I just want everyone that supports me to know you're not just supporting me but my mom not worry about me.
