Wanda's Medical Fund

Donation protected

One of the best parts of living in a small town is how you are always separated by everyone by 6 degrees.... and Wanda is certainly one of those people who has touched everyone's lives.
Wanda was flown to Thunder Bay Health Sciences on Sunday, May 27 when her son found her that morning paralyzed from the neck down.

Wanda is currently on a ventilator and dialysis for kidney damage, and her c-spine (most of her neck) has been fused. Doctors think this is a result of a pre-existing arthritis on her spine, likely resulting from a fall. Knowing Wanda, she took a tumble and shrugged it off, that's our girl. Calcium has built up on her vertibre from c3-c7, and she has undergone surgery to fuse a plate to these affected vertibre, as her spine has numerous shattered and pinched nerves.

As of right now, Wanda is on dialysis for her kidneys (as she sustained some damage from the paralysis before she got to the hospital) and had to have a tracheotomy to help her breathe (her diaphram just isn't strong enough to breathe on her own right now) and doctors are hopeful that the paralysis will aleviate now that her spine has been fused, they are hoping that once the swelling goes down she will recover some of her mobility.

Her daughter Ashlee and son John are by her side, along with many of her adopted children.  Wanda, or lovingly called Wicked by so many of us, has always been  the first to offer a hand, sage advice, or a safe haven to anyone she met.  Norton's house was always open to the weary and wayward, a place to gather with your friends, or a place to recover and re-evaluate.

Whether you know her from the Vouz, the Hospital, RRDSSAB or just from her oh-so distinct and very contageous laugh, Wanda needs our help.

She and her family have a long journey ahead full of surgeries, physio, medication, specialty services, travel and likely rehabilitation equipment.  Not to mention the time off work she will need while she recovers.  Ever too proud to ask for help, I am reaching out for her. Her friends are seeking to raise enough funds to make it easy for her to focus on healing, not worry about pennies and nickles.

Any donation is appreciated, and if you're not able to donate, we understand. Leave a kind word.... Ashlee will keep her updated as we go, so leave something to make her smile.

Please share this and make sure to follow so we can keep you updated.

Thanks for caring,
