When one has to go through CANCER, staying healthy is all one should have to think about. However, this is not how real life works. Amanda, a mother of 4, wife, daughter and sister, has worked her whole career as a nurse and caring for others. Now that she is faced with battling cancer, it’s time that she accept some care from others.

Last year, Amanda was faced with the terrifying challenge of battling cervical cancer. She had to undergo 5 rounds of chemo treatments and  28 radiations with 4 being painful internal radiation treatments. Not only are these painful and scary, they are expensive. While Amanda has served as a nurse and does have health insurance, it still left a hefty cost EACH treatment for her to pay. I’m talking over $500 each treatment left for her to cover after insurance. So, while having to take off work to receive these treatments, which means no pay, everyday costs don’t just go away either, the cost of having cancer continued to stack up against her. She fought through those treatments and battled to stay afloat and take care of her family. While financially she was floundering, she beat her cancer!

Or so we all thought. Recently after a scan, Amanda found out there was a mass in her lung that had doubled in size. So that mass needed to come out along with a portion of her lung. Amanda’s cancer is back. So, that means surgery, which means time off work. Which means no pay and bills continue to stack against her. She did just that. Took time off work to have surgery. The mass has been removed, which was lung cancer, along with a portion of her lung. She had a few day long stay at the hospital with a painful chest tube in her lung. (Imagine the cost of this surgery and hospital stay!) Now we wait to see if she is in the clear or if she will need further treatments where she has to relive this whole nightmare again.

Amanda is not one to ask for help. So, as her sister, I’m asking for help for her. My sister needs to be able to focus on getting healthy. She is stressed beyond measure. She’s not only got to battle for her life, she’s got to try to give her kids some sense of normalcy. With utilities about to be turned off, empty cabinets in her kitchen and kids that need winter clothes AND medical bills continuing to mount, she NEEDS HELP. It’s time to take care of her. I’m asking on her behalf, if you can help her with any amount to relieve some financial stress so she can focus on fighting for her life and being around for her husband and kids. She beat cervical cancer, but now it’s time to fight like hell against lung cancer.

Please give Amanda some hope for her future. We can all rally around her and show her that there is so much more left to her story and we will all be here for her while we wait to see her story unfold.
