Dexter's Cancer Treatment

K9 Dexter had a rough start to his life, as a puppy he was chained to a tree in a backyard in Alabama.  I was fortunate enough to come across him on AdoptAPet.com and drove to Alabama to test him out to become a working dog.  Once back in Ohio he became my partner with Buckeye Search and Rescue Dogs (BSARD).  www.buckeyesarchdogs.org  We are a volunteer K9 search and rescue team that provide our services to police and fire at no cost.Dexter and I trained non-stop for an entire year and he passed his International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA) Human Remains Detection test when he was a year and a half old (Dexter is now only 3).  Dexter loves to work and demands that we train on every one of my days off...and sometimes my work days too. Did you know there is no funding for search and rescue K9's?   BSARD handlers pay for their dogs, all their equipment, training, certifications, dog food, medical expenses, and all costs incurred deploying on a call out.  A mass was recently discovered on Dexter and he had surgery to remove it, unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer.  The surgery to remove the mass was $3,000.  He underwent imaging and biopsies ($1,300) to make sure the cancer has not spread to internal organs before treatment.  Dexter will be starting chemo ($500-$600/treatment).  He will do 1 treatment a week for 4 weeks, then every other week for 8 weeks.  During that time he will need on-going blood work (unknown on the cost yet).  Dexter will also need imaging and biopsies ($1,300-$1,800 for each procedure) once every 3 months for the next year.   We are asking for your donation so that we can provide the necessary treatment to get Dexter healthy so he can continue his work for our community.
