Sheklun's Older Brother
URGENT!!! Everyone, my family and I need your help to save my little 14 year old brother! He has a tumour on his brain stem. Anything helps! A donation, telling your friends and family, sharing on social media, and of course your prayers.I will tell u more info below
My older brother Brett, my mother Carmen, and my Stepdad Vingo are asking for your help!
Sheklun is a great brother with an amazing heart. He is loving and caring. He always makes sure you are good before he is! He has such a kind soul and is very down to earth. He is always looking out for his family and friends. Always asks me to take pictures and capture the good times! He deserves a better life!
On Jan 2, Sheklun passed out at home and was rushed via ambulance to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. We thought nothing of it and just thought he passed out from choking on a smoothie he was drinking. It turns out he passed out from a hypoxic event (shortage of oxygen). During our visit to the ER on January 2nd our world was turned upside down. We found out he had a tumour on his brain stem. Near the end of October 2018 Sheklun’s symptoms began; he had minor balance issues and slurred speech. We thought nothing of it. Surgery was planned for January 9th to allow him to be stabilized. We were fortunate enough to have the best neurosurgeon in Canada, Dr. V. Mehta. Also fortunate for his team and neurosurgery nurse practitioner Wendy.
On January 9th the exophytic (outside) part of the tumour was removed. However his brain stem is still infilterated with the tumour. The tumour is glioblastoma grade IV, aka GBM. The location of the tumour and the type of the tumour with the mutations is very very rare. The tumour was affecting his auto drive to breathe. Due to the removal of the exophytic part of the tumour, the pressure on his brain went down. His breathing and voice improved.
On January 11 Sheklun was extubated and it was successful. Sheklun began walking again on January 13 around the hospital and even to the healing garden. He did these walks from the 13th-18th. Things were looking really good! Then on January 19th we noticed he had a weaker voice and couldn’t stand. On January 23 things got really scary as his Co2 levels greatly elevated. He was placed on a ventilator. January 24th his Co2 levels elevated even more. On January 25th Sheklun was intubated and radiation treatments began in hopes to slow down the growth of the tumour. We are 3 radiation treatments down and things are looking good.
We are buying Sheklun more time so he can leave Canada and get the treatments he needs to defeat this rare tumour!
Anything helps right now! Please share, donate and of course pray for Sheklun!
