Syrian Refugees in Dire Need!
The Syrian War has devastated the lives of millions of men, women, and children. Not only are these poor souls displaced out of their homeland, but many of them lack access to critical healthcare services. They need our help. They need your compassion.
My name is Chandler, and as Philanthropy Chair of the Alpha Kappa Psi Omicron Upsilon Chapter (Cornell University), I would like to invite you to support our initiative.
We have a passion for service. Philanthropy is one of our core values. As a fraternity, we seek to build leaders in the business community, but we also value giving back. This is an opportunity for us to provide aid for those in need.
Despite our physical presence being on Cornell's campus in Ithaca, NY, our efforts will extend overseas to a refugee camp located just 2 km south of the Syrian border, outside of a town called Sabha, Jordan. This refugee camp is considered a nongovernment camp, which means that it is not operated by an official government entity. Unfortunately, the refugees of these camps are often left to fend for themselves and don't receive the foreign aid that is poured into the government run camps. These refugees in Sabha have no access to healthcare, formal education, or substantial food assistance programs.
We will be using all donated funds to finance hospital visits for refugees with critical medical conditions.
We have been coordinating with a nonprofit in Jordan called the Youth Network for Development and Innovation (YNDI). You can visit their website at www.yn-di.org to learn more about their mission. YNDI has already organized volunteer doctors to visit refugees camps in northern Jordan (along the Syrian border) and provide primary care appointments. These doctors have diagnosed 37 individuals (mostly children and young adults) with critical conditions that need treatment, either through operations or prescriptions. We have kept careful records of these individuals that need help. Unfortunately, these humble refugees do not have the financial resources to pay for such operations or prescriptions, let alone even visit a hospital.
Alpha Kappa Psi has formed a partnership with YNDI in which we will raise donations to help these struggling refugees. Our chapter treasurer (M. Gilbaugh) and philanthropy chair (C. Pfaff) will both monitor donations that come through GoFundMe and offline. The funds will be transferred from GoFundMe to Gilbaugh's personal bank account, and as our chapter's treasurer he will handle the meticulous accounting of donations. He will then wire transfer the funds to the director of YNDI (E. Sa'adeh), who will personally oversee and facilitate the hospital visits for the refugees in critical conditions. The individuals with critical conditions will receive transportation to the nearest hospital and will receive the treatment that they need, thanks to your donations. Since this project is purely finance-based and all medical diagnoses and procedures will be performed by medical professionals, we can guarantee quality care and pose no liability risks.
We will ensure that there is no waste and that all funds are properly accounted. Our philanthropy chair is responsible for the organization of this campaign, and has personally visited this camp and conducted prior humanitarian aid projects with the assigned YNDI project manager. Rest assured, this is a worthy cause and a concerted effort to make a difference in the lives of those less-fortunate than us.
