Syrian Refugee Cancer Support - Yusuf Hamad

Donation protected
Often overlooked in refugee situations, are refugees with cancer.

This campaign is to support Yusuf Hamad.

Yusuf is a Syrian refugee living in a refugee camp in Jordan.

Yusuf is also battling cancer.

As for a little bit more about me and my relationship with Yusuf. I am a college professor from Rochester, NY, I have known Yusuf for four years. I first met Yusuf in 2015 in the Za'atari Syrian refugee camp of Jordan when I was conducted research funded by the US National Science Foundation. I have continued to work with him on an innovation project called Refugee Geographic Information Systems or RefuGIS. More information about the RefuGIS project can be found in the link below.

I also consider Yusuf to be a dear personal friend and I am using resources available to me such as GoFundMe to support his cause.

Yusuf has a wife (shown in the picture) and two children who were born in the refugee camp.

Yusuf has been through over 10 cancer treatments in the past 24 months.

Yusuf's situation is urgent - as a refugee, his financial resources are limited.

Your donation will help Yusuf get better cancer treatments and support his wife and two children should something happen to him.

Additionally, Yusuf would be grateful for anyone willing to work with him and his family to sponsor their resettlement.

Funds provided to Yusuf will be used in the following specific ways:

1. To pay for a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan after he receives additional chemotherapy treatments in Spring 2019.

2. To cover costs for as-of-yet unknown treatments. Yusuf's condition is evaluated every three months. As per the story told in Surviving Cancer as Refugee Story Map, his remission periods are often short and he returns for cancer treatments often.

3. To cover basic living costs for his wife and children while recovers from chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. When Yusuf is recovering from cancer treatments, he is not able to work and generate income.

The withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the Yusuf is as follows: Any funds donated to this campaign will be deposited into a dedicated checking account I have created with Canandaigua National Bank & Trust located in Canandaigua, NY USA. From Canandaigua Bank, the funds will be transferred by international bank transfer to Yusuf's brother who lives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and has an account with Emmirates Islamic Bank (https://www.emiratesislamic.ae/eng/). From there, cash will be withdrawn by Yusuf's brother and given to Yusuf. As a refugee, Yusuf is not allowed have a bank account in Jordan.
