The 2018 Sylvia Bresnik ROUTE 66 Memorial Tribute Road Trip

I met Sylvia in 1963 in Augsburg, Germany. She was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. We were married in June of 1965 and lived in Santa Monica, California until 1977. We then moved to Escondido, CA. We had five children between 1966 and 1977. She was a triathlete, marathon runner, century bike rider and hiker (she did Mt. Whitney at age 72).

She rode her bike every Sunday morning. She and her two friends rode 40 to 50 miles every Sunday. On Sunday, April 16, 2017, she did a solo ride, and while going about 30 mph down a hill north of town, she fell off somehow – there were no witnesses. She died of injuries on April 17th. We were married for fifty-two years.

I'm planning to begin the journey on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 (she was born on a Wednesday) and I’m looking for your support, as I am on a very limited budget. I am looking for help to cover my expenses, food and lodging. This trip will allow me to work through the grief process and heal emotionally. With your financial help, I’ll be able to travel without being concerned about money. I want to be completely present in the moment at all times, if possible. If money is not a concern, then I can focus on Sylvia’s memorial tribute.

I plan to document and chronicle the entire journey with many social media updates, photos and insights that come to mind. Your help will provide a great healing space for me and it will honor the memory of Sylvia. I know she would be proud of me for doing this in her honor.
My daughter Angela created the memorial tribute logo to encompass symbolism which is important to this cause and to Sylvia's heritage. The green ribbon represents Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness and Organ Donors Awareness, and, of course her Irish heritage. Also, March is Brain Injury Awareness month. Sylvia died of a brain injury and she was able to donate both kidneys and her liver through The Gift of Life Donor Program.

We talked about this trip for years, but it didn't materialize in her lifetime. Now I am going in honor of her life. I will dedicate this trip to her memory.
