Uganda 'Widows' Gardens Project'

Donation protected

In October 2018, I will be volunteering with the 'Widows' Gardens Project'  in Uganda, Africa. I will be part of a small task force to support the project and to assess the needs of the local school that services the villages of Kabuyanda and Kikagate. The goal of the project is to provide widows with enough land to enable them to feed their family and set aside funds to renew the leases established for them. These widows live from hand to mouth in poverty and often raise grand-children without support. At present there are 91 widows benefitting from the project with the goal of providing 360 widows with sustainable food security within the next 6 years. With the team, I will be interviewing widows who apply for this life-changing project and visiting the local school to assess it's needs.

Having volunteered in Malawi as a teacher (1982-1984), I am thrilled to once again be part of an international aid team. I am excited to share my 30 years of teaching  and my international experience with the Widows' Gardens Project which provides direct and important aid to those in need. By supporting these widows and school, the whole area is supported.

All expenses for travel, meals, local transportation, accomodation, medical coverage etc are born by the volunteers (app. $5000).  As well, we are encouraged to fund raise to support the project and school. ($3000)

Thank you for considering to assist me with these costs. I am thrilled to answer this call which touches my heart.

With affection,
Sylvia
