Sylar’s Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

First, I want to take a minute to thank everybody who has already donated to this campaign. I am extremely humbled by and thankful for your support, and Sylar is too. It's a weird feeling asking for help from others, and you all made me feel a ton of love and support. I'll never be able to say thank you enough.

Now, for the main point of this update - Sylar's condition. I'm friends with many of you on Facebook, so you've probably seen bits and pieces of this already, but Sylar did not end up having his leg amputated. Last Thursday (November 30), I took Sylar to see the surgeon who was going to perform the procedure, and during the consult she determined that his leg was not the issue. I was shocked, to say the least, because I had already resigned myself to the idea that Sylar was going to live life on three legs. Even so, the surgeon said she had NEVER seen a dog in so much pain, so something was still seriously wrong.

As we talked, the surgeon explained that there was a strong possibility that Sylar had contracted some kind of bacterial infection in his back, and we immediately started giving him antibiotics to see if his condition would improve. Over the next few days, I started to see signs of obvious improvement (moving without yelping), and it became pretty clear that we could be dealing with an infection.

The Monday after this consult, results from blood and urine tests came back: Sylar had a Staph infection in his back and not one, but two different kinds of UTI. In fact, in his urine test, there was more blood than urine. Anyone who has ever had Staph knows how painful it is, so I can only imagine what Sylar was feeling, especially when it was on top of two UTIs.

To make a long story short, I did not feel right leaving this page as it was since the original plan changed drastically. I do not want people to give money thinking it's for one thing when it's used for another purpose. Unfortunately, Sylar is going to have to be on serious antibiotics for the next two or three months, and that cost combined with what I've already spent will bring the total close to $3,000.

I am going to leave this page up to try and defray some of these costs. I hope nobody feels duped by the change in circumstances, but please let me know if you'd like a refund - I promise there will be no hard feelings. For anyone who can still donate to help, it is truly appreciated.

With any luck, Sylar will be up and bouncing around in no time. Thanks for reading and thanks for your support.
