My phenomenal big sister is graduating from the University of Washington Masters in Teaching program and putting her degree to good use as a Kindergarten teacher this fall. She will be returning to White Center Heights Elementary School (WCH) in Seattle, where she has been student teaching for the past year.
WCH receives Title 1 funding, and is mainly made up of low-income, immigrant families. Sydney’s class is primarily comprised of first-generation, Somali refugees. Of the students at WCH, 85% receive their only meals at school, with the free breakfast and free & reduced lunch program.
Did you know most teachers in the U.S. pay out of pocket for school supplies, books, and material for their classroom? Teachers at WCH typically send their students home with additional snacks, hygienic products, books, & more. As we know, teachers are already over-worked and underpaid!
My goal is to raise $1500 for Sydney’s classroom, ensuring that her Kindergarteners have full bellies, and everything they need to learn. Your contribution would be a huge help-- and no donation is too small!
