Sydney Takes on Tanzania!

Donation protected
Hello all! My name is Sydney Paulsen and I am a Pre-Nursing student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I started college knowing for sure that being a healthcare professional and receiving by Bachelor of Science in Nursing was my goal. So far, college has been an amazing experience and I feel very lucky to have the memories I have and I look forward to the memories I will continue to make. Going in with the firm decision of wanting to be a nurse, I also knew that going abroad was something that I so greatly wanted to experience. Helping others is something I have always enjoyed and take a lot of pride in. As long as my body is able, aiding to those who aren't is something I won't stop doing. Humans helping humans is an amazing thing and something I want to take to a different part of the world and share!

After pushing aside the thought of going abroad because it never felt like the "right time," I finally started the process of just looking at my options. I applied to a medical abroad trip with an organization called IVHQ to Arusha, Tanzania and was accepted! I plan on leaving December 27th and will return January 15th, 2018! Although the trip will be short and sweet, I am still beyond excited to share my talents, learn about a different healthcare system, culture, others, myself and to see the world! I hope to make a long-term and sustainable impact on not only my life but also the lives of those I will meet. While I am there, I will be working along-side local medical professionals in medical clinics and hospitals to perform patient care. I will be working in departments such as Laboratory Testing, Pharmacy, Maternity and Family Planning, Radiology, Ultrasound and General Med/Surg to further my knowledge in the healthcare field. During my time away from work days, I hope to spend time exploring the town of Arusha, take a trip to the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar, see wildlife on an African Safari, see Mount Kilimanjaro and maybe even hike some  of it!

Words cannot describe how blessed I am and how fortunate I feel to perform God's work while furthering my healthcare skills, seeing the world and meeting new walks of life! Could I ask for anything better? Although some say the best things in life are free, in this case, it isn't. It will cost roughly $2,500-$3,000 to embark on this incredible journey. While going to school full time, that only allows me to work part-time and those paychecks only help so much towards my Tanzania fund seeing as I have other life expenses. I am asking that anyone that can give a monetary donation, I will be forever grateful! However, I know that it is not possible for everyone. So, for someone who has never been out of the country, this will be a very new experience for me and I ask for your prayers and for well wishes during this time. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and helping me along this adventure!
