Sydney & friends fundraiser Daddy’s brain cancer

On the 1st Sept 2020 life for Sydney age 8 at the time and us as a family changed forever when her daddy (Did known to many) was diagnosed with Terminal 4 glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. We were told that if he was lucky he may get 12-18 months because of his markers, they never expected the normal standard of care under the NHS to work and that most don’t live past 12 months. This absolutely devastated us all, we were given no hope what so ever. Told to go enjoy walks in the park. This journey has always been about making memories with a quality of life with treatment. Did is still doing that!!!

We were advised from a consultant in America to look for trials or anything else that could help. We did find a trial down in London and this was supposed to start after the initial 6 weeks of chemo and radio, this also followed surgery of 90% removal on the 7th Sept. However for various  reasons did ended up not being eligible for the trail, another devastating blow at the time.

Fast forward to now 27th Sept 2021 and the journey did (dave) has faced has been unbelievable, did has faced gruelling surgery twice as it grew back in the same place and second surgery on 21st April 2021, he’s had several seizures, first witnessed by Sydney, her resilience and drive to support and look after daddy is incredible, we’ve been travelling to Germany for treatment throughout the pandemic and built up a team of different neuro oncologists, integrated oncology nutritionist, herbalist and patient advocate and specialist of GBM. Teams in Germany have been brilliant and more recently a specialist in Los  Angeles. We couldn’t have got this far without everyone’s help.

We set out to raise 150k and the main page is at just over 107k, this is unbelievable and we could never have got this far without all the amazing people supporting us. However the reality is we now have 32k left in the pot and around another 7k to come in, but with the current cost of £7610 for each cycle of keytruda needed to support the treatment journey this will run out rapidly. Already this week we have spent over 15k on the first cycle and other costs for consultants and molecular testing.

Sydney has kept asking if she can do something for daddy and a few others have said they would like to join her.  So the idea is to start on the 10th Oct with a sponsored litter pick (suggested by 2 of Sydney’s friends Paige and Sadie Othen) Sydney will also be joined by another 10 friends, Ellie, Zoe, Elsie, Ellie, Leah, Olivia, Freya, Connie, Margo, Lahna, Amy and Lexi. This will be the first of on going events which her friends are welcome to come and join as we go along and do which ever they wish with Sydney.  The aim is for this page to raise enough for one cycle of keytruda £7610, this started as part of the treatment yesterday down in London Charing Cross hospital, our next visit is 18th October.

Please contact me Nicki (Sydney’s mum) 07834974371 or email [email redacted] if you have any ideas for Sydney. The next one we have to plan is a sponsored walk across the Humber Bridge
