Syd's Ride: Wheelchair Van

Hello,
My name is Kelli, I’m writing this on behalf of my niece, Sydney. She is a brilliant young woman who has just graduated with high honors from Eckerd College with a double major in Psychology and Music Management, with a minor in Japanese.
At the age of five, she started exhibiting signs of muscle weakness causing her parents to seek medical attention. Numerous visits in and out of Children’s Hospital, Boston, led to a diagnosis of Muscular Dystrophy (MD), specifically, LGMD2C. This rare form of Muscular Dystrophy affects only 1 in every 14,500 individuals worldwide. Sydney’s condition progressed requiring her to use a power wheelchair full-time. Being in a power wheelchair requires a wheelchair accessible van, unfortunately her current van has become very unreliable.
I am humbly reaching out to our family and friends, requesting any help in acquiring a new van to safely transport Sydney for life’s daily activities; graduate school, her internship, eventually a job, ongoing medical appointments, and life! Recently, Sydney has been given an internship opportunity in Florida, and it’s important she has reliable transportation because such opportunities are very rare for severely disabled individuals.
A new wheelchair accessible van can run upwards of $65,000. What many don’t realize is neither The Muscular Dystrophy Association nor Insurance help with the cost of a van.
