Brian's Medical Fund

Three weeks ago, Brian Heath, a strong and vibrant 43 year old from Idaho Falls, was a brilliant and creative software expert.

We say "was" because out of the blue Brian suffered an ischemic stroke, affecting the cerebellum and brain stem areas of his brain. The bleeding into his brain continued for days. Doctors could not control it and permanent damage was caused to the cerebellum and brain stem. 

Brian was in ICU for a week, then spent another week in CCU, and another in Rehab.  The bill for his time in ICU alone was $100,000 but there is no insurance to pay the bills. It had been cancelled and the notice had not reached him in time to renew.

Brian had moved in with his parents to help his mom through surgeries, and afterward help with the caretaking of his father (who is disabled) and the upkeep of their home.

Now, because of extreme vertigo brought on by the stroke, Brian cannot look at his computer, ride in a car, or read more than a few minutes. The dizziness makes it difficult for him to focus at all. Seeing anything in motion causes him pain and his vision has been compromised.  

Brian’s general ability has also been badly affected. Taking in technical information and understanding is now a challenge for him. He has to have more CAT scans, balance testing, vision tests, and blood tests too--but there is no insurance. He is extremely stressed about money, so upset that he does not want to take meds due to the cost, but of course the docs have said his body will not heal unless he does.
