Medically Compromised Family Displaced by Laura

My name is Austin Jones and my family lives in a small community outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana called Moss Bluff.  Recently they were displaced by Hurricane Laura, which dropped a tree through their house, causing a tremendous amount of  damage and rendering their home of 32 years completely unlivable. Now, we are no strangers to hard times as my mother has been diagnosed with several rare diseases including dermatomyositis, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertention. She has been living with these serious chronic ailments for 6 years. My father and brothers have taken care of her through these long years and are now taking care of our grandmother. Both my mother and grandmother require oxygen machines to stave off the most debilitating symptoms of their diseases, but our community is without power for an uncertain amount of time. Their hotel and travel expenses are quickly piling up and they are uncertain about government assistance and insurance payments. They cannot wait for these agencies to act. They cannot be left on the streets. Speaking from the heart now, my family has sacrificed dreams, ambitions, and comfort in the name of health and security. If compassion were a commodity I would not be writing this, but they need help. We've done everything we could think of but it still isn't enough, and so we ask those who understand how unfair life can be to help us. To get them on their feet and look life in it's, often, cruel eyes and say "Not this time".
