Swing, Sister, Swing

Donation protected

Rarely is lindy hop performed in a theatre mainspace, part of a wider arts festival and produced, promoted and led by women. Help us bring bring Swing, Sister, Swing to life and consider making a donation. Whether it's £5 or £500, any bit helps.

Cat Foley and I are taking our first big step as co-producers, choreographers and performers to tell a more complex story through lindy hop, swing dance, vintage burlesque, song and comedy about what it means to be a woman, to be a in a partnership and to wrestle with being alone.

We are self-producing and lindy hop is still under-resourced by traditional funding bodies. And to be honest, we can't do it alone.  We would love to take this show to other cities, involve local performers and to give it future life. This is just the beginning. We are deeply grateful for any contribution you can make and offer a bevy of sweet benefits for your generosity listed below.

What is Swing, Sister, Swing?

Swing, Sister, Swing is a cabaret-inspired show celebrating female choreographers, kick ass musicians and pieces created and inspired by jazz-greats Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday.  We are thrilled to be a part of the Grimeborn Festival at the Arcola Theatre on 29 July 2018 and need your help to bring the show to the main space. This is a rare opportunity to see dance in the Arcola main space and a first for Cat and I in our dancing careers.

We've assembled an incredible team of talent to show you what lindy hop and a group of kick ass people can make on a professional scale and celebrating women and jazz dance. Performers include leading London jazz dancers and musicians: Cat Foley, Tine ‘Machine’ Gatchalian, Nancy Hitzig, Katie Stotter, and European champion chorus-line, The Dinahs. We will also be joined by dancers Benjamin Cook and Stephen Atemie.

Grimeborn is fantastically affordable (tickets are only a tenner!), but that means we are limited in what we can earn from the box office in our agreed box office split. As this is a first and the ticket price iis set by the venue and festival, we really want to be able to able to pay artists for their skills, capabilities and time at the standard market rate. Funds will go directly to participating artists fees, production costs such as lighting rentals and the cost of a videographer to make a high quality archival video to help bring this show to new audiences. We'd love to have a circle of supporters to help us bring Swing, Sister, Swing to a broader audience.

In thanks for your kind support and generosity, we are able to offer some fun benefits. If you'd like to chat about contributing to Swing, Sister, Swing and what something more bespoke please contact us here by clicking here.
