Hi, my name is Carolina Prieto and I have been swimming in open water since I was little. I have done multiple open water races and two fundraising swims in the SF Bay (one was from Alcatraz to San Francisco) which benefitted cancer research.<br /><br />Upon my arrival in New Orleans, I learned that Hispanics played a critical role in rebuilding New Orleans after Katrina's destruction. Hispanic construction workers came to New Orleans' rescue when the city most needed help.  This December, I will be doing a fundraising swim from Cozumel to mainland Mexico (about 20 miles / 32km) on December 27th starting at 4am in a relay with my parents benefitting the <a href="https://www.nohhf.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation</a>, an organization which provides scholarships to talented high school and university students that would otherwise not be able to continue their education.  As a Hispanic privileged to attend <a href="https://www.newmanschool.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Isidore Newman School</a>, I am very motivated to help both the NOHHF and my school, with all proceeds of the swim going towards a scholarship to Isidore Newman School. It is a small way to give back to a community that has given so much to this city. <br /><br />Any donations of any size will truly make an impact. Thank you!
