Dear Friends and Family,
Carla and I received a little 6lbs 2oz Valentine’s Day blessing. Quinn Patrick was born in Spokane on February 14th. We met his birth mother, Mariah, in December and amongst all her available options she decided to entrust us with raising Quinn. After getting to know Mariah we feel additionally blessed to have been chosen by a birth mom that we truly enjoy. She is wonderful and we are very excited to add her to our family as well. Quinn’s open adoption will be a beautiful blending of families.
We see this process not in terms of Mariah giving up her baby, but rather of coming together of loving people to give Quinn opportunity and stability from which to grow and flourish. Mariah has given Carla and I the priceless gift of being parents. As we embark on this very long awaited chapter of our lives we would like to give Mariah a much deserved new beginning as well.
Without getting into too much detail, Mariah’s background did not have the opportunities and support enjoyed by Carla and I growing up allowing us a world of options as we moved into adulthood. She recently moved to Spokane to start anew. Arriving with nearly nothing, she has scrappily worked to establish herself in order to look for a healthy future. Even through childhood diversity she became a sweet, selfless, funny, caring young woman. She strives to do better and be better. Her dream is to become a professional baker. When she speaks about anything baking related her energy lifts, her eyes sparkle and her hope and dreams for bright future illuminates all around her.
We write this letter in hopes that each of you will recognize the sacrifice she has endured to make our dreams come true. In honor of her sacrifice, we ask that you join us in celebrating our love for our son Quinn by helping his birth mom reach her lifelong and much deserved dream of going to college and becoming a professional baker. She wants to build a bright and stable future, one that Quinn will be proud of and we want this for Quinn as well. In lieu of baby gifts to welcome Quinn we ask you to show your love and support by donating to a college tuition account we have set up in her name.
Mariah will be at Quinn’s baby shower on the 15th of March (invitations will be mailed soon). It is our greatest hope to raise the funds necessary to cover her baking program at the Spokane Community College and surprise her with our family and friends’ loving generosity at the shower.
