Sweet Baby Evelyn

Donation protected
We would like to celebrate the life of sweet baby Evelyn Grace Peraino. Baby Evelyn blessed the world with the gift of her presence on December 1st, 2017. Tragically on March 17th, 2018, Evelyn was taken from this Earth. Though here for a short time, she was loved so deeply by everyone she touched, especially by her wonderful parents, Nick and Ann.

Currently, Nick and Ann are in the process of setting up a scholarship fund to help aspiring nurses. After such a terrible and heartbreaking ordeal, they were so moved by the generosity and kindness of their nurses, they want to help others to pursue their dreams of nursing. Because of these genuine individuals, Nick and Ann were given comfort through the worst time of their lives, thus any donations will go towards this nursing scholarship.

"On Friday we took our baby girl to DMC Children's Hospital because she wasn't eating much and seemed to have poor circulation in her toes. We expected to be turned away and regarded as over-concerned parents. Leading up to Friday she had all the signs of a healthy 3 month old - eating, growing, peeing and pooping regularly, no concerns from previous doctor visits. She had a mild fever when we arrived at the Emergency Department and she was admitted. ED pediatricians, cardiologists, radiologists, and surgeons all thoroughly examined her but no one department could pin point a cause to her distress. We were hopeful and optimistic after 14 hours and thought worst case we'd be camping out together for a few days while IVs and antibiotics fought off this mystery. Shortly before 8am, her heart stopped suddenly, when moments before she was fussing and alert. A team of what seemed to be 50 people tried for an hour to revive her, but unfortunately their best efforts were not enough.

Throughout what felt like a horrific nightmare, we were able to find comfort in the arms and words of the nurses that surrounded us. While we are extremely grateful to the teams of doctors that tried everything in their power to help our little angel, it was the nurses who never left our side. It was the nurses who took the time to explain to us everything that was happening, using words and terms that did not require a google search. It was the nurses who hugged us and cried with us. It was the nurses who told us how beautiful Evelyn was and asked questions about her so that they could make her as comfortable as possible. The nurses comforted us in a way that is hard to explain in words. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to staff at Children's Hospital of Michigan for your love.

Evelyn was only here on Earth for a short time but we are determined that her legacy will outlive both of us. While there are still details to iron out, we are planning a memorial fund in honor of Evelyn, supporting aspiring nurses so that they too can provide the much needed love and comfort that we received on the worst day of our lives.

Initially a gofundme page was set up by our friend Faye to provide financial support for our family, but every penny will be used to kickstart Evelyn's memorial fund. We always told Evelyn she was going to do great things in this world, and we absolutely believe she still will."
