Sweet Lola's Emergency Vet Care Fund

Hi, I am Anna Treece. We are raising funds for our little foster Lola. Lola arrived in the US on Feb 27th with a flight angel from Puerto Rico through a small local rescue. She is about 1 years old and a little terrier mix who was abandoned at a dog park in PR a few weeks prior.

The rescue was able to get her off the streets, initial vaccinations and local foster family in PR before she made her way to our home and our hearts.

Lola arrived at EWR on 2/27 in the evening and my son Murphy and I were there to great her. She spent the first few days exploring our house and getting to know our dogs and it was clear she wanted friends and cuddles.

That first weekend she showed signs of gastro issues and we had a stool sample sent out immediately and worked with our vet when it came back positive for Giardia. Her initial symptoms were diarrhea and vomiting. The costs to diagnose and treat this were $426.

Over this last week she seemed to be doing great with solid stool and a healthy appetite as she continued on her medication regime. Yesterday (3/7) in the afternoon she started acting different: shivering, trying to eat grass and hiding in corners. Eventually she started vomiting again. I rushed her to the emergency vet and stayed there until 2 am. Her bloodwork was great, but her xrays were not. They showed lower intestinal foreign objects, possible intussusception and a larger stomach. We administered additional anti-nausea medication and took her home to sleep with the plan to do a follow up cray in am. That ER visit cost $1607.70.

This morning, after additional nighttime vomiting, we made the decision to take her to All Creatures Great and Small Animal Hospital in Denville. She will have surgery at 1pm. After reviewing her xrays again they see intussusception - which is the folding in of the intestines and normally caused by intense straining in addition to the foreign objects in her intestines. We have been advised that she may not make it through surgery bc we don't know the extent of the intestinal damage until they open her up. Our current estimate is $4250.

We have been covering this completely out of our pocket and is it at an extreme cost.
