SWARM 957 To FRC World Championship

Donation protected
We are team 957 SWARM from Albany Oregon! We are a mix of students from South and West Albany High schools and Oregon Connections Academy. We are an FRC Robotics team that competes in FIRST competitions annually. Although building and competing with an industry robot is a large part of what we do, we are also focused on bettering the community around us. We start by teaching STEM skills to as many students, of all ages that are willing to learn.

We are volunteer led. We build our robot from scratch and have about five mentors who take time away from their jobs every day, to help teach a team of about 20 high school students! These skills range from engineering, electrical, CADD, programming, community engagement, fundraising, and not to mention communication! Every year our team makes it a priority to do community outreach. This varies anywhere from doing presentations at our local YMCA and middle schools, to engaging and building relationships with local businesses and potential sponsors. In addition to being a completely volunteer led team, we require no tuition, and do not require students to have any skills to join the program. We teach them all of the skills they need to know to not only be successful on the team, but also in their career and life in the future.

In 2010 we earned the Chairman's Award, which helped us to qualify for worlds; our first time qualifying! We have not gone since. Last year we earned the Quality Award and have been working on becoming a more professional and an industrial grade team. Currently, we have ranked 10th out of over 150 teams in the PNW. Recently, we won 2nd place at the Wilsonville competition, and earned the Judges Award for the team's detailed approach to strategy, game playing and programming skills. These wins paired with our results from last year, demonstrates the dedication of our students and mentors at bettering the team.

The Worlds competition will be held on April 18-21, 2018 in Houston Texas. To register for this competition there is a fee of $5,000. In order for all our students to attend, it would cost about another $25,000. This is about $1300 per student, that they must provide personally, which is extremely steep for those that cannot fund themselves. Due to our lack of funding we are asking for you to help us make it to this once in a lifetime event! Your sponsorship funds would help contribute to transport the team and help make the registration fee. Any amount that can be contributed to our team is greatly appreciated. These students are the future of Albany. Your contribution will help build a better and stronger community. Thank you for your time and help and GO SWARM!!  HUZZAH!
