This is Buddy. Buddy is my best friend. We found Buddy on Black Friday abandoned in Tacoma, WA. When we brought him into the house, Elf was playing and I had already referred to him as Buddy several times so the name just stuck. He had no collar, not chip, and no one came to the Humane Society to find him. He was just under 4 months old, filthy, soaked, starving, and scared. Now, he is just over 9 months old and is everyone's Buddy.
Here is the long story in a shortened version
9/23/2015 - I had a massive heart attack at age 39 that the doctors did not think I should have survived. Open heart, several complications, and two more operations later, we finally paid off the last of it in August of 2018 only to have another significant expense fall upon us two month later.
10/13/2018 - Camping with friends when their dog accidentally trips my wife. She falls directly on her chin. Breaks 6 teeth and her jaw. Jaw is wired shut but does not heal after 6 weeks. Surgery, steel plates, 6 more weeks of wired shut. She has had to have 2 root canals and crowns, two teeth repaired, and two extracted. She is supposed to get implants in July. Homeowners insurance will not pay out until every last procedure/therapy has been completed. It could be another year or more. We are currently out of pocket $24,000 as I type this and we had somehow managed to store just enough in savings to get her teeth replaced in July.
5/10/2019 - Buddy is diagnosed with papillary squamous cell carcinoma (cancer). after a $740 removal of a growth in his mouth and biopsy. He then had to have a maxolectomy where they remove a portion of the upper jaw bone, palate, and the teeth that go with it. The operation on 5/14 was over $7,000 after all is said and done.
The only money we had left was to go towards the implants to replace my wife's two missing teeth. So we are now in a place where we had to take the money we had set aside to get her teeth repaired to pay for Buddy to be cancer free.
