I’m Paul. Ex-pro musicia, currently playing in the band Crash and running my studio.
This project is to fund into existence the SV Walter Russell. She's already out there, sailing under a different name with no idea that her future is about to change as she becomes the star of an online ‘TV’ show as a live aboard home for three to four crew.
The plan is to produce regular episodes detailing the journey, lives and events of the crew members as they sail around the world beginning at wherever the vessel is purchased, and sailing initially to the Greek Islands and Turkish Aegean Sea, immersing themselves in as much culture and beauty (warts and all) as can be found.
The show will be pitched to production houses in the UK and failing uptake (predicted) - progress to the preferred outlet of Youtube, Vimeo, and other platforms. It will also feature a members only website hosting more media and members' only features and merchandise.
Free viewers will get insights to everything that this style of life and journey presents, including ecological angles, as well as disappearing traditions and fading customs as well as the world’s most beautiful people and scenery.
And the ocean! Much ado about the ocean. Sailing it, swimming & diving in it and generally being part of its magnificence.
There’ll be visits to tucked-away villages, sampling local delicacies, cultural practices, local customs, as well as everything the travel guides leave out. Hiking to remote locations and generally going where few souls venture.
And there’ll be MUSIC! Live music is a mainstay and the series will feature purpose-written pieces that will also be available as a standalone CD / MP3 for purchase through iTunes & google music etc. Intimate acoustic concerts with locals and tourists - a bit of busking and LOTS of sunsets with guitar soundtracks.
The ultimate goal is to reach far-flung destinations like The Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and other off-the-beaten-track islands, and eventually on to South America. To uncover the off-chart locations and insights into how the rest of the world lives.
And we might look into buying a few salvage rights over lost vessels too. Interesting times.
Before any of that Paul must learn how to sail and get qualified as a skipper.
Again, all filmed. From the point of knowing nothing (but having a decent skill base) the entire journey begins with the first step.
And that’s why we’re here.
The funding will be used to acquire the boat and some high level equipment that will be used for producing the shows.
Patreon will be used for ongoing expenses & running costs.
The boat will be a used (let’s not get too ambitious) and robust, do’er upper, ideally an Island Packet 40, Amel Super Maramu or (secret penchant here..) a Ta Chiao CT56.
Work will be continuous in improving and beautifying the yacht, wherever possible by the crew - and again, will all be filmed.
The timeframe is skewed at the minute by Covid restrictions but Paul aims to begin training mid spring - beginning of summer 2021. Approximately two months should see that completed and he is currently selling most of his guitars and studio equipment to fund it.
Supporting this project will literally change several lives overnight. It is hoped that the footage & experiences captured will make the best human 'real' entertainment imaginable (pretty sure we're bored of Hollywood CGI by now..)
The gratitude for this will be self-evident in the songs & music written and in the constant push for finding newer and more remote / exotic locations to sail to.
