Suzanne's 10km challenge!

Tax deductible

Hi everyone!

For those who know me well, it’s probably a good idea to sit down before you continue reading this. I wouldn’t want any accidents when you fall over with amazement (or laughter), or experience any sudden chest pains/dizzy spells due to the shock. For those who don’t know me, all I can say is I’m probably the least likely person to embark on this little adventure, for reasons which will soon become clear!

So..... I decided a little while ago to enter the Manchester 10km run. Now the word ‘run’ is probably a little bit ambitious, so I’m more realistically aiming for a steady jog. Since I started training (and I couldn’t even run for more than 5 seconds at the outset), I’ve faced many surprising challenges. I had no idea my knickers would fall down whilst attempting my first run. There became a VERY urgent need for a sports bra. And who knew my denture wouldn’t want to stay in place? Not me, that's for sure. But with some grit and determination (and Fixadent), I can now train without fear of losing my teeth and I’m pleased to say my underwear issues have been resolved. Yay!

Disappointingly (but not surprising), the official event has been cancelled for this year. I do however still get a ‘Great Manchester Run 2020’ medal if I complete the 10km by the original date of 6th September. So this is it folks! The training continues and I hope to get my medal in the next 11 weeks! I’m aiming for the 6th September as my ‘race day’.

So ‘why am I doing this?’, you may ask. Well, there are two main reasons. Firstly, it gives me an opportunity to support a local dog rescue centre in Manchester - Dogs 4 Rescue - which is run by 2 wonderful people I’m proud to call my friends. Emma and Lou rescue dogs (and other animals) from the UK and abroad. My 2 fur-babies are D4R dogs. Mia was due to be put to sleep at a pound in Essex - just because she was an unwanted brown Staffie. Emma and Lou saved her on her last day and 2 years later, she is the boss of our family and we couldn’t love her any more. Bruce came from an abusive home and thankfully D4R gave him a rescue space. Mia and Bruce met and it was love at first sight. So Bruce joined our little family and he is the friendliest, most loveable dog anyone could wish for. So I’m trying to raise a few quid for this fantastic rescue - so that they can continue their amazing work and save more unwanted and abused animals. Secondly, this is giving me a fantastic incentive to get more fit, and less fat! For those who may have noticed a slightly slimmer me in the above photo, I've lost 4st 6lbs since starting this crazy project. Plenty still to go, but off to a flying start, none the less!

I will be sure to keep you all updated with my progress. Wish me luck - I’m going to need it!!!
