Suzanne Weems Brain Surgery

Hello,

To start, thank you for reading. To get right to the point, my mom is having brain surgery, and we are requesting support to help her pay for living expenses during her recovery.

My mom, Suzanne Weems, is by far one the most loving and supportive humans on the planet. It makes sense that I feel that way because she’s my mom, but I’m pretty sure anyone who’s had even a short conversation with her would agree with my sentiment. My mom has always kept her head up and a smile on her face, no matter what the circumstances. Right now though, she’s facing a tough situation that would rattle most.

We found out earlier this year that she has a brain tumor/cyst on her pineal gland, which is a small gland in the center of her brain just behind the midbrain and cerebellum. Thankfully, her doctors have assessed that it is not cancerous which is a huge relief. They have also determined that the tumor can be removed, but will need an intricate surgery by a specialist in Houston. This surgery costs around $200,000.00, but fortunately, Mom, has only been asked to pay the co-pay’s of around $6500 to get insurance coverage for the surgery. My mom has worked two jobs in two different towns just to scrape up enough money to pay the co-pays this year, while still trying to have enough money to cover her day-to-day living expenses like rent and utilities. She currently works 40 hrs. a week from Mon-Thursday at an office job and waits tables at a bar/restaurant on the weekends. She’s doing her best now, but unfortunately, she won’t be able to fulfill that work schedule for up to 6 weeks after surgery.  For approximately 4 weeks, she will need to be housed in the Houston Area to accomplish her surgery and be monitored afterwards. This means hotels or Air B&B accommodations will need to be arranged to meet that need. She has applied for all of the "free to people in need" housing accommodations, but all have been filled by individuals who are affected by the disastrous Hurricane Harvey. Housing will be our key financial concern both in Houston and her home in Texarkana.

Her surgery is scheduled for 01 November 2017. As you can imagine, the stress of being out of work for over a month while still expected to pay all of her bills and over up to $3000 worth of housing (around 100/night) can be overwhelming. I personally feel this burden should not be placed on a person who is about to undergo an operation as serious as brain surgery, so that’s why my sister Ashley and I are asking for help in assisting her.

Any financial support you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Zach Stone & Ashley Weems
