Kevin's medical expenses

On August 31, 2015 I went to the emergency room at Easton Memorial Hospital with chest pains. I was diagnosed with an aortic dissection and was rushed by helicopter to Shock Trauma in Balitmore. Initially the diagnosis was that I had a type A dissection which required immediate surgery but it was later determined that I had a type B dissection which did not require immediate surgery. I was kept in the hospital and monitored with medications trying to keep my Blood Pressure and Heart Rate very steady, two key factors in the success of survival on my condition. After a week I was released to go home. Two weeks later I returned to the doctor for a follow up and the CT scan showed that the tear in my aorta had gone from 2.9cm to 5.8cm so I was taken back to UMMC for surgery the next day. After a successful surgery and another week in the hospital I was released to go home and spent the next three weeks under the watchful eye of my sister and home healthcare nurses. Slowly I started to go back to life as normal, going back to work at church and slowly adding to my teaching load. It was not any easy road and returned several times to the ER with issues with my BP. In November it was determined I needed to have my gall bladder removed so I did the day before thanksgiving. Through the winter I continued to monitor my BP and heart rate as instructed, was doing PT for pain in my arm that started post op, finally having issues again with BP and chest and arm pain the resulted in another trip to the local ER and then transfer to UMMC for observation for another week.

Throughout this ordeal I have been very lucky to have incredible family, friends, church, employer, etc helping me in every way they can. I am very fortunate that my employer provides me with health insurance which has certainly covered the bulk of my medical expenses. What the insurance has not paid, I have been trying to pay as I can but as anyone who has been in similar circumstances can attest it becomes overwhelming when daily phone calls from all the different doctors and hospital etc that want their money.

It is at this point I decided I need to reach out for help. My medical bills since September of last year have been in excess of $250,000. My insurance luckily has paid a high bulk of it. The out standing amount beyond what I have been able to pay myself is still in excess of $7500.00. If you are in anyway able to help it would be most appreciated. I had not wanted it to come to this but as the bills keep pouring in and the phone calls keep coming as well I am not sure there is a better answer. If you are not able to help monetarily please pray that this situation will work its way out. Thank you, Kevin
