Sutherlin girl needs cardiac alert dog

Carley is an active 6 year old girl who was recently diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome during an episode of high fever. Brugada Syndrome is a rare dysfunction of the electrical system of the heart. It causes dangerous abnormal rhythms which could lead to cardiac death. These episodes usually happen during times of rest, such as sleeping. Brugada is also known as Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome. That pretty much tells you everything right there. It is a rare disease. Ever rarer in women and even more rare in children. This disease usually affects males of asian decent in their 40s. The first symptom is usually cardiac death at night. But we were lucky enough to catch it on an EKG during an episode of high fever (which triggers abnormal rhythms so well be panicing every time she gets a fever now) cause she kept having chest pain that hurt so bad she would cry. One doctor told me he wasnt worried about her pain. But my gut was telling me something was definitely wrong so I took her the ER and they did an EKG which came back positive for brugada. This will effect her life forever and ours. We will be waking up every morning wondering if she's gonna wake up and she will do the same when she fully understands this. Which is why we are wanting to get her a dog and train it to be a cardiac alert dog. Dogs already trained are $20,000 to $38,000. And as ive researched it's actually better to get your own dog and train it with its person that way you get that bond and the dog is more sensitive to drops in blood pressure and abnormal rhythms. We hope to get her a dog not only to give her a friend through all this but also to help us sleep at night knowing that the dog will wake us up if anything were to happen. But we cant do it on our own. I've found some puppies around $500 and with fees from here and help with training and vet visits I set the goal to $1000. This could very well save my daughters life.
